Experienced Track Rider
Ballarat | Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual or Fee per Ride
Being a mid-sized stable of 25-30 horses in work, this role provides suitable candidates with the opportunity to be actively involved in stable operations and the careers of horses under our care, working closely with Nigel directly.
Successful applicants will have demonstrated at least 2 year’s experience riding fast work at a racing stable. Skills riding two-year-olds and colts will be highly regarded, as will track-riding experience at Ballarat.
We are willing to review full-time, part-time, casual applications, or fees per ride. Wages offered will be commensurate to experience.

Are you currently licensed with Racing Victoria, or eligible to be licensed by completing the mandatory Handle Horses and Follow OHS Procedures training units? We want to hear from you!
Stablehands perform general stable duties under the direction of our Assistant Trainer to prepare horses in the morning for track work. Swimming, tacking, washing and feeding horses is part of the morning routine. In the afternoon, horses are walked, rugged and taking for a swim, and feeds and waters replenished.
Raceday duties are shared amongst our team, and depend on experience level.
Wages above the Horse & Greyhound Award rates are offered commensurate to experience.

A Foreperson’s position has now become available at our Ballarat stable. To be eligible, you must have a minimum of 1 years’ full time professional experience in a similar stable management role, demonstrating excellent leadership and horse handling skills.
We will specifically assess your ability to:
- supervise all associated stable activities and lead our team independently;
- assess each horse’s progression and education in consultation with Nigel and track riders;
- ensure safe operation of all equipment and the use of personal protective equipment, and mitigate safety hazards;
- attend race days and trials as required, occasionally representing the stable and communicating with jockey and owners.
This role would suit a Ballarat local with professional referees to support your application.
