The first filly we purchased at the 2019 Inglis Gold Sale, might have the X-factor we all look for in yearlings.
2yo Bay or Brown Filly
- Sire: The Factor (USA)
- Dam: Melodramas (by Commands)
- Foal Date: October 12, 2017 (AUS)
By speed machine and dual Group 1 winning US sprinter, THE FACTOR, this filly slipped under the radar in a market all too often focussed on the "hot stallions" of the day.
This filly took our eye with her attractive looks and kind nature. She is nicely balanced and has a smooth gait when parading for us a few times over the few days at the Inglis Oaklands sales complex.
“Every time this filly was paraded by the team at Moorookyle Park, she handled it beautifully. She has a lovely demeanour, and I watched her several times return to her box straight to the feed bin. A good sign! She has some length, and whilst perhaps a little immature at this time in her life, she is a deceptively a good sized filly, weight 460kg upon arrival at our spelling farm. I hope she turns out to be a bargain buy for just $14,000!” – Nigel
This filly is a daughter of THE FACTOR (USA), a son of excellent US sire WAR FRONT who stands for USD250,000.
War Front continues to produce quality horses. His son WAR OF WILL won the Group 1 Preakness Stakes (US) recently to go with other Group 1 winners these past twelve months in HOMESMAN (Underwood Stakes AUS), US NAVY FLAG (July Cup UK) and OMAHA BEACH (Arkansas Derby USA).
But War Front is is also a notable sire-of-sires. DECLARATION OF WAR sired the recent Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner, WINNING WAYS.
The sire of this filly, THE FACTOR, only raced 13 times in the US but won six of those, including two Grade 1 victories over 1400m. At stud, he has been a good success story in the US, producing 15 stakes-winners from just three crops of racing age. His progeny are led by Group 1 winner NOTED AND QUOTED.
Standing at Newgate Farm in the Hunter Valley for two seasons, he only produced 70 odd foals each season and his oldest Australian crop are three years of age. From his first crop there are 27 winners from 50 odd runners so far.
Recently, he sired the Group 3 BRC Grand Prix Stakes winner FUN FACT. He is out of a grand-daughter of DANEHILL, just like this filly.
This filly’s dam, MELODRAMAS, is daughter of COMMANDS (by Danehill), a successful broodmare-sire and great source of speed. Melodramas has already produced three winners from three foals to race.
The family is a diverse one, with Melodramas being a three-quarter-sister to ARENA (G1 AJC Derby and G1 STC Canterbury Guineas, plus numerous group placings) and a grand-daughter of LEE’S BID (G1 SA Oaks, G2 AJC Adrian Knox, plus placings in each of the AJC and Queensland Oaks and the Queensland Derby). Further back in her pedigree appears the NZ 3yo filly of the year (1994-95) TARTAN HEIGHTS.
Here is the latest video of the filly at Shadowhill Thoroughbreds, in the early days of her spell.
