We introduce our new filly by So You Think out of Let’s Get Famous, purchased at the NZ Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale for NZD110,000.
There was never a doubt that Nigel would inspect this last daughter of LET’S GET FAMOUS, herself a daughter of Australian horse of the Year (1991-92), LET’S ELOPE.
Playing an important part in the career of Let’s Elope when working for Bart Cummings was just the start of Nigel’s relationship with this filly’s family. Since then he has trained her daughter OUTBACK JOE to win an Adelaide Cup, and her grand-daughter LET’S MAKE ADEAL (a half-sister to this filly) to win a Group and a Listed race, among others.
Watch this video of her in NZ and listen to what Nigel has to say.
Let’s Make Adeal, an older half-sister to this filly, was a favourite in the stable. She won more than half a million dollars in earnings including the Group 3 Bart Cummings Handicap which got her into the Melbourne Cup field in 2015. Sadly she succumbed to an injury two weeks out from the Cup, a race which we are sure she would have been competitive in (we would never say it in public, but perhaps she could have won it!).
Other sons and daughters of Let’s Get Famous are also well-credentialed. Raindrops of Roses, Destination Tucson and Kiriana (all by High Chaparral) are three-quarter-sisters-in-blood to this filly, and all are multiple winners with talent over the mid-distances. Heez Notorious (aka Norman) was another Blackiston Racing stable favourite who won four races including a strong win at Sandown. And recently, Royal Performance has been working his way through the grades with two nice wins and some city-placing, before winning the Colac Cup over 2000m. No doubt he is on his way to some more city performances.
As for So You Think, we strongly believe he is one of the very best sires in Australasia. The sire of almost 300 winners including 24 stakes-winners, he has proven us right to be so confident about his prospects. Group 1 winners Nakeeta Jane, Sopressa, Le Bella Diosa, D’Argento and Inference lead his progeny. But the long list of other Group-winners and Group-performers of both sexes across all distances, demonstrate his versatility.
Twelve of his stakes-winners are fillies, winning their stakes races from the age of two up to five, at distances from 1200m to 2000m. He somehow ads class and speed to mares bred stoutly, yet ads stamina to mares bred for speed. For a mare like Let’s Get Famous, typically producing middle-distance / staying prospects, So You Think could be the perfect mating – for racing and future breeding!
If we look after this lovely filly early in her career and give her the time to mature into her three-year-old season and beyond, it will be exciting to see what the future holds.
