Sold $1820 2018 Frosted - Shooting Sally

Yearling Grey Filly

  • Dam: Shooting Sally (by Northern Meteor)
  • Foal Date: October 25, 2018 (AUS)

Out of a fast daughter of the outstanding Northern Meteor, from an Australian family running deep in black type

Nigel was captivated by this filly at the Inglis Premier Sale.

“She’s a very attractive filly with good range,” Nigel said.

“There’s a lot in her that I like in a filly – a good walk, a nice deep girth and lots of scope to improve.

“I think she was exceptional purchasing at the price, especially with the depth of the family.

“I see her as a filly that will be suited to a mile with versatility – just like her father who was a multiple G1 winner over a mile and G1 placed out to a mile and a half.

“It’s also a great vote of confidence to have the breeder retaining ownership.”

Frosted is an unmissable Grey known best for his brilliant win in the Group 1 Metropolitan ‘Met’ Mile (Belmont USA).

He was runner-up at Group 2 level as a 2YO, beaten half a length. He then won the Group 1 Wood Memorial (1800m) at three before placing 2nd in the Group 1 Belmont Stakes (2400m), beaten only by American Pharoah.

Staying in training as a four-year-old, Frosted captured ‘The Met’ (G1 Metropolitan Handicap) by an incredible 14.25L. Watch that victory below. He also won the Whitney Stakes (G1, 1800m).

Progeny of Frosted have been well-sought in the sales ring. His first yearlings in the US made up to US$850,000, and up to $650,000 in Australia. This filly is from the highly anticipated first southern hemisphere crop for Frosted.

This filly is the fourth foal of Shooting Sally, a winner over 1000m and placed in a 2YO metropolitan race. She is by the late and loved Australian sire Northern Meteor.

She has already produced the winner Yarrinup Flyer, a multiple winner between 1400-1600m. Her other runner, Busby, placed second at Caulfield in a 3YO 1440m event in late 2019 before spelling.

The family is a well-regarded Australian family rich in black type. Shooting Sally is a sister-in-blood to Group 2 winning 2YO Bound For Earth. She is also a half-sister to the stakes-placed Wonderful You and closely related to Group 1 VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese.

Stakes-winning 2YO Calliope and Caulfield Guineas runner-up Lizard Island also appear in Shooting Sally’s pedigree.
