A third victory for Groovin’

Posted on Posted in News

On Friday, Groovin’ scored her third career victory for connections, and second at the popular Bendigo racecourse.

Following her win at Bendigo in late July and then a very good fifth placing at Ladbrokes Park Sandown, both over 1300m, Groovin’ stepped up to the 1600m distance for the first time this preparation.

Since returning after her late Autumn spell, she has been a very consistent horse both on raceday and each morning at Flemington. She is stronger, and to complement that strength, she has shown more speed. However she certainly appreciated the 1600m of the Beach Party Raceday BM70 handicap on Friday.

The four-year-old mare by MASTERCRAFTSMAN is a product of Windsor Park Stud. She is out of IMPERIAL DRAGON, a half-sister to Group 1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas winner CLEAN SWEEP. This is the same family as Kentucky Oaks and Canadian Oaks winner GAL IN A RUCKUS, Champion South African 2yo and UAE 3yo SOFT FALLING RAIN, and dual US Group 1 winner HABIBTI.

Speaking with racing.com after the race, Nigel is of the belief that Groovin’ may be best staying around the 1600-1800m distance range for now. Keeping her a little fresh and with sprint in her legs, might be the key. This is despite the obvious temptation to step her up further in distance that matches her pedigree and type.
