Upcoming runners

Over the weekend and into next week, we thought we would update you on our runners.

We hope to maintain a good record travelling across to Morphettville in Adelaide, with two runners engaged.

Fastbrook runs in the 1800m Auraria Stakes, a three-year-old fillies Group 3 race. Following a strong win at Ladbrokes Park (Sandown), Fastbrook ran well in the Listed 1600m Laelia Stakes at Morphettvile from a wide barrier. Winkers have been applied for Saturday and she has drawn a little better in barrier 12. She is a filly taking after her  dam’s family which includes horses like TULIP and SACRED EYE. So we have some level of confidence that the 1800m will suit.

Ferro Nero heads over to Adelaide, the scene of a strong win in August last year. He ran a very good second at Ballarat last start on a firm track. Despite being back in distance to the 1800m, we feel that this is a good race for him being on the minimum weight and with a little bit of rain forecasted.

Bred by great clients of the stable, Big Pat’s Pontiac is searching for his second career victory on Sunday in the 1400m R & C Asphalt Class 1 at Pakenham. He has been running some very good races in good company at Sandown. He shows a liking for the 1400-1600m distance range, and perhaps may get further. But for now, we hope Sunday’s 1400m event has some pace in it to allow him to settle mid-field and run home strongly over the top!

At Flemington on Tuesday, Amarela will back up in a BM84 Fillies & Mares race over 1600m. She has been running well but perhaps getting too far back in her races for various reasons. With the aid of a good barrier (please!) we hope she sits midfield and not far from the leading division. Craig Williams has been booked to ride. Thereafter, Nigel is looking at stepping her up to 2000m for just the second time in her career.

We also hope to be taking Cadabra to Flemington on Tuesday, although we eagerly await the final acceptances on Friday. The race she is targeted for is the BM70 3yo race over 1600m. The way she flew home to win at Cranbourne last start suggests the Flemington straight will be to her liking.

These runners follow hot on the heels of the victories of SNEAKERS, CADABRA and GETEMHEL.

A reminder that we have shares available in just one of the six horses selected and purchased by Nigel this year. By exciting young sire EXCELEBRATION, this colt is from the family of Cox Plate and Guineas winner SHAMUS AWARD.
