A little bit of magic on debut

It was a great result on many fronts when Under My Spell scored on debut at Warrnambool on Sunday.

A $330,000 yearling purchase by Brendan and Jo Lindsay and the Cambridge Stud team, Under My Spell is an attractive, athletic filly by the current leading Australian Sire, Pierro. She was expertly prepared and sold by Arrowfield Stud at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

She arrived at our stable several months ago in search for the right environment to mature into her frame and relax in the quieter Ballarat surroundings. Nigel and her regular riders took her along slow and steady in the latter part of 2019, allowing her to learn in her own time.

On the training track and in a couple of Ballarat jump outs, Under My Spell improved each time she galloped. Being by Pierro and out of a Hussonet mare, Under My Spell wasn’t a natural two-year-old on paper and that’s how her early career developed. But now she is showing that a successful three-year-old Autumn campaign could be her go.

Much credit goes to Brendan and Jo, and the Cambridge Stud Racing team led by Henry Plumptre and Racing Manager Jason Smith. The patience shown and the trust shown in Nigel and the team, do not go unnoticed. It is an honour to train this filly for such an iconic operation as Cambridge Stud.

We also thank Tyler Donaldson-Aitken for plenty of education of this filly in 2019, and Fred Kersley for quite a bit of work he has been doing for the stable in recent times. He trialled this filly a couple of times and gave her some good experiences to prepare for her racing.
