Powerful filly with a deep girth and a strong hindquarter
Yearling Chestnut Filly
- Sire: Sepoy (by Elusive Quality)
- Dam: Which Vault (by Break the Vault)
- Foal Date: September 19, 2019 (AUS)
From the family of VRC Derby winner WARNING and prolific winner CHATTANOOGA
We might have picked up a bargain securing this filly for $40,000. Time will tell of course, but we know some other buyers were quite keen to buy her. Lucky for us they had already spent their money on earlier lots! Hopefully we were in the right place at the right time.
This filly is a powerful looking filly. We can’t wait to see the kind of filly she will develop into in 6 months time. Right now she is quite rotund, carrying plenty of ‘baby fat’. This is a good sign as the vendors, Franklin Farm, have obviously kept her happy and healthy and have not pushed her too hard during the yearling preparation. It’s great for us to see young horses in their natural state and plan their early development.
After a short break we are keen to put this filly through the breaking-in process and start her doing some exercise. Nigel thinks she will blossom in months to come.
A four-time Group 1 winner and Australia’s Champion 2yo and 3yo in his generation, SEPOY was noting short of a superstar.
At two he won five races including both the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper. His only defeat in six starts at two was behind Smart Missile on a heavy track.
At three he added five more wins. He won another “stallion-making race”, the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), but also beat older horses in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and Group 2 Caulfield Sprint.
Retired to stand at Darley, Sepoy has sired 365 winners (to 3 March) including 21 stakes-winners. Dual Group 1 winner ALIZEE heads his progeny. But his 20 other stakes-winners prove his worth, at the right price range, winning a combined 37 stakes races predominantly between 1000m and 1600m and at all ages.
WHICH VAULT is an unraced daughter of BREAK THE VAULT, himself a son of stallion-maker REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
Which Vault is out of LEMON SPICE, quite well-known in the Victorian breeding industry having produced six winners. They include the prolific winner CHATANOOGA who won 14 raced including one in stakes class, and placed in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield. She also produced stakes-performers FLYING SPICE and COOKTOWN.
Two other half-sisters to Which Vault have produced speedy two-year-old REAL STOLLE (G3 Maribyrnong Plate) and also TINDAL (LISTED VRC Poseidon S.).
This is the same family as VRC Derby winner WARNING and another fast two-year-old, NOMOTHAJ.
