Amortise Pays Dividends

Amortise won his second race impressively on Monday at Ballarat, showing a return to form hinted at as a younger horse.

Ralph (as he’s affectionately known) has had issues including a throat operation 12 months ago, and a few minor challenges this campaign. His poor performance at Moonee Valley a few weeks ago was put down to a minor cold, and his displeasure at racing under lights around the tight Valley circuit!

Despite dropping back to 0-58 grade last start and running only third, Nigel was adamant that his run was better than it looks on paper. Carrying weight, he knuckled down in the concluding stages to suggest he was returning to form.

And return to form he did, in the Benchmark 64 event over 2300m  metres at Ballarat. Brad Rawiller rode a perfect race on Ralph, settling midfield on the rail and getting out into the centre of the track in perfect time to run down his opposition. He sprinted away and won by a length for a passionate group of owners.

Amortise has been great workmate with Let’s Make Adeal for the past 12 months, reflective of Nigel’s faith in him. Hopefully he can improve to her level in time….or thereabouts!
