The Lad breaks through

I was delighted to see Mossara Lad win his maiden at Echuca on Monday, at his fourth start.

I have always been confident this son of Mossman will win some races, based on his track work and trials at home. He has just taken a little time to mature, both physically and mentally.

Whilst he still races a little fierce in the early stages of his race, I was keen to apply the blinkers for the first time on Monday. He did settle eventually, and was given a great ride by Dylan Dunn. In this grade, he did find himself hitting the lead 50m too soon, and Mossara Lad had a gawk at the surroundings early in the straight.

Dylan got his mind back on the job, especially when the eventual place-getters loomed up at his flanks. But he was too good and raced away from the field for a commanding victory.

His team of owners, originally put together by Classic Bloodstock, have been a hive of excitement this campaign. They have displayed patience and trust that their “lad” will break through soon and enjoy a successful race career.

I wont get carried away just yet, so will continue to work Mossara Lad through the grades. But it’s great to get the first win on the board.
