All aboard Sailors Falls

It was a great result of breeder/owner Paul Cochrane at Kilmore on Sunday when another one of his foals out of his mare Queen Josephine, became a winner. The first win of many we hope.

Sailors Falls is a gelding who has taken some time to mature, just like his family and the progeny of his sire, Reset. His last run last preparation over 2400m showed Nigel that he possessed talent. So Nigel and Paul put him away to strengthen further with the eye on middle and long-distance races in late Spring and over Summer.

Ridden to perfection by Ben Allen, Sailors Falls took up the running rounding the home turn knowing that he will stay and could hold off any late charges from behind. He remained strong on the line to score a comfortable win for Paul Cochrane, a great supporter of the stable. By the looks of the betting fluctuations, it seems a few punters were all aboard him too.

Paul and Nigel purchased Sailors Falls’ dam, Queen Jospehine (by Success Express), at the 2006 Inglis Select Sale. Sadly, she developed a throat problem and never raced.

Being from the family of GINZANO (joint second top filly Australasian 2yo in 1994-95), ALIYANA TILDE (Group 3 winner and multiple Group 1 placed) and several other black-type performers deeper into her pedigree, Paul was keen to breed with Queen Josephine, supporting Victoria-based stallions and of course the Super VOBIS & VOBIS Gold schemes.

Charcoal Lane was Queen Josephine’s third foal and was a winner for Paul and the stable before sadly retiring too soon. Sailors Falls is her fifth foal.

In planning Sailors Falls’ upcoming races, Nigel and Paul are keen to target Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold prizemoney in the future, especially at distances exceeding 2000m now that he has matured.
