Protection gets the money

Four-year-old gelding Protection Money delivered a pleasing win at Cranbourne yesterday, doubling up as a nice birthday present for his owner/breeder Ross Wilkinson.

His second win of the preparation and third for his career so far, he is certainly reaping the benefits of a patient approach in his younger days.

It was a great ride from John Allen. With a nice barrier he was able to get him in a beautiful spot, off the fence a few pairs back. Importantly, he timed his run perfectly and was able to build momentum through to the finish – especially important both Cranbourne and with Protection Money.

He will press on further this preparation and we will look to get him out further in trip, especially now he is more mature horse who has learned a lot more of his craft.

Depending on how he is rated after this win, there is a 2400m BM70 at Sandown in a few weeks that looks to be an ideal race for him.

Congratulations again to Ross Wilkinson, a wonderful supported of the stable with his home-bred horses.

On a general note, we are very pleased with how the stable is going at the moment as a great run continues for our supporters. Protection Money is our twelfth win since the 1st of April at a strike rate in excess of 20%.

With two runners at Flemington tomorrow in Diaquin and Translator, and three at Echuca, we hope it can continue. Best of luck to the connections of all horses this weekend.
