Breaking Away with his Maiden

We were really pleased to get a nice win with Breaking Loose at Mornington today.

First and foremost, a thank you to our owners who were patient with this horse and will now hopefully reap the rewards of the time we’ve put into him.

Breaking Loose has always been a bit of a work in progress – a very immature horse who just continues to develop and grow.

However – he’s staring to improve and we are pleased to see the way he goes about his racing with a performance like today, running away to win by some margin.

Mornington is well known as a tight track and the 2400m trip can be particularly testing given horses have to climb the hill there twice.

Yet he remained unperturbed and thrived in the challenge.

Thanks to Jamie Mott for a confident and strong ride – the sort of style he is very well regarded in as a rider.

Putting our horses in the race like that and allowing them to build momentum is key in building confidence and allowing them to improve.

The runaway win suggests to us that Breaking Loose’s maiden win was overdue and now he may continue to rise through the grades over his next few starts, especially given that was his first go over 2400m – a real staying trip.

He is still learning his craft and it’s pleasing that his manner and race craft now allow us to step him up in distance where he can be competitive and win some better races.

For now, we will aim to keep him in some weaker races where he can continue to win races.

Breaking Loose will continue to get better at his trade as a stayer, and as long as he’s beating opponents his confidence will continue to grow and he his performances will continue to improve.
