Patience Pays with in Diva and Sunset

We were thrilled to get the maiden with with Yankee Diva today at Kilmore, her third start of this campaign.

She is a big, strong filly and being by Americain, she’s destined to focus on staying races.

With her action and some natural ability she can pick up and build momentum beautifully and that was on show today.

With a great ride from Neil Farley she was able to build momentum and quickly put the race away eventually claiming the race by nearly two lengths.

As a 3YO filly taking on older horses over 2000m, it does make for a pleasing victory.

A $20,000 yearling purchase, it’s exciting to have a progressive stayer in the stable. With the VOBIS money she earned today, she has already earned back her purchase price with hopefully plenty more to come.

She raced as a 2YO just to gain experience and given she was physically and mentally ready to race. Having had that experience she’s in good stead to continue stepping up in distance.

It is likely that Yankee Diva will next head to Bendigo for a run in the Galilee series, ultimately with the series finale in mind if she continues to improve.

Another recent winner for the stable was California Sunset, another horse experiencing the benefit of a patient approach.

He broke his maiden first up last campaign and was more impressive this time, leading all the way under Neil Farley.

It’s always a pleasure for our stable to train a winner for Ross Wilkinson and hope there is more to come for this son of Manhattan Rain.

He could be one to progress through the grades this campaign as well.

We were fortunate enough to put some good work in at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands last week, and were pleased to take home four horses.
