One win per campaign is good. A second win is ideal.

Five-year-old mare IDEAL MISS started this current campaign with a record of five placings from 16 starts. She went close a couple of times and has been consistent in her performances, but a victory had eluded her.

In June at Pakenham, at her second start for this campaign, Ideal Miss scored that deserved win. Over 1600m she ran down hot favourite Choquant in good time, beating the third place-getter by more than six lengths.

It was an excellent performance to reward her connections and our stable.

Now physically and mentally mature, Ideal Miss is capable of racing regularly over what Nigel thinks is her optimal distance, around 2000m.

As is often the case, Ideal Miss benefited from her first run over the more extended distance of 2200m in July.  In that race she was tested up in grade (BM70). The experience prepared her well for her second run over the distance, this time ‘at home’ over 2100m. She scored her second win for this preparation and her career.

Settling off the pace, rider Blaike McDougal put Ideal Miss into the race at the perfect time. She followed a couple of runners to make her way into third placing on the home turn and then finished powerfully to win with something in hand.

Ideal Miss is a striking brown mare by Scissor Kick who was purchased for a modest price of only $16000 at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale. A group of stable clients all came together to find a filly with a budget in mind. It’s not often easy to win multiple races when buying in this price range, but Ideal Miss looks like to have a few more wins coming up in the right grade and on the right surface.
