Lots to learn, but the Lad wins again

Sometimes races do not go to plan, yet the result is still favourable. That was certainly the case last Thursday at Sale when Mossara Lad found himself in the lead and over-racing, but was too strong at the end of the 1411m Benchmark 64 event.

The intention was to try and find some cover for Mossara Lad, but be well positioned just off the speed from the good barrier. Damian Lane reported that Mossara Lad jumped well, but the horse we thought would lead did not press on as expected from an inside barrier. With the blinkers on, stepping up to 1400m and with a bit of daylight ahead of him, Mossara Lad proceeded to race a little fiercely.

After 200m it was clear that Mossara Lad was not keen to come back under Damian. Damian rightly elected to not fight too hard against Mossara Lad, as he continued to charge well ahead of the main group. Despite this, our Lad continued his strong run to the post to win with some authority that helps justify the good opinion Nigel has had on this horse.

Winning his second race for a great group of owners, Mosssara Lad is showing a lot of talent but is still learning what racing is all about. He is nearing full physical maturity, but has a way to go before he settles in his races and conserves the required energy early.

Still, on talent and courage, we will continue to progress through the grades and see plenty of more wins for this gelding.
