Today, we lost a friend

Posted on Posted in News

It was sad news at the stable this morning to hear of the passing of our long-time client, and great friend Sandra Lawrence. I, Susanna and all the staff at Blackiston Racing pass on our sympathies to Ross Wilkinson, and to Sandra and Ross’ family and friends.

Sandra and Ross have been loyal supporters of our stable since the very early days in the Hunter Valley, then Cranbourne and now Flemington. More than just a trainer-owner relationship, I have cherished Sandra’s friendship and loyal support.

I have been fortunate to train Sandra and Ross’ horses for many years. You will recognise their colours below.

Sail The Stars

Out of the Woods (by Touching Wood) has left a legacy that Sandra was proud of. That mare produced winners Woodwin, Buzzwin and Shilly Shally Miss. She also produced Nordic Noir who has been so close to winning his first start in recent weeks. It will be fitting to see him win his next start.

But the best progeny of Out of the Woods was the dual city-winner and Group-placed Deep In The Woods. She then produced winners Pas De Retraite, Balaclava Lady, Tiny’s Legacy and Viking Ransom. Tiny’s Legacy has also been an unlucky runner in recent weeks. We can hope that he joins Nordic Noir in the winners circle in weeks to come to give us a reason to celebrate.

Motor Neurone Disease is a disease the world is only just beginning to learn. It does not discriminate. For every person diagnosed with MND, the impact of the disease will be forever felt by their loved ones. None more so that our friend Ross.
