The Suavi army marches on

Suavito has got better with age and she stepped up to the highest level with her victory in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

She had an easier option in the Mannerism Stakes against the mares but I opted for the harder race as I felt she would be better off at the weights, even though it was weight-for-age she would have had 50 kg in the mares race and as she is not the biggest mare I wanted the lesser weight.

Damien Oliver knows her well now and the way the race fell it could not have been better with a muddling pace that saw her close enough at the top of the straight.

Suavito might be small in stature but she has the heart of a lioness and once Damien produced her she let down with her finish and was coming away at the line for a big win, much to the delight of her army of followers.
Now she has the coveted Group 1 win it is very satisfying, not just for myself and all the team at home but for Ian Lewis who found Suavito in New Zealand and her group of owners.

I will see how she comes through this race. She has the Blamey Stakes at Flemington as an option and then several entries in Sydney so a nice problem to have.
