Sensational Suavito

Suavito capped what has been a topsy turvy spring carnival for us with a sensational win in the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Damien Oliver gave her another great ride and I have to admit I did not think she was going to get there but she has such a great attitude she stuck her head out where it matters most to score and make a lot of people very happy.

Thanks to Ian Lewis for trusting us with his horses and it is extremely satisfying to win a race of this stature for him and his owners. Thanks to the team at home, Gemma Hayward who dotes on the mare and rides her every day, even though Suavito has her own little quirks in the stable that can make things interesting at times but a great result to end the carnival on a high.

We were out of luck earlier in the day with Lets Make Adeal in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Desert Jeuney in the Emirates. Desert Jeuney felt the hard ground and James Winks looked after him for us, and the same for Lets Make Adeal, who was feeling it as well.

We have had some blows this spring, losing horses to injury and some bad luck along the way but it is all part of this wonderful industry that gives us so much. We have much to be thankful for with a great set of owners and staff and wins like that of Suavito make us understand yet again just how hard but rewarding this business is.
